(Exodus 20:14) ESV

He who commits adultery lacks sense; he who does it destroys himself.
(Proverbs 6:32) ESV

And I say to you: whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another, commits adultery.”
(Matthew 19:9) ESV

Everyone who divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery, and he who marries a woman divorced from her husband commits adultery.
(Luke 16:18) ESV

If you love me, you will keep my commandments.
(John 14:15) ESV

Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.
(1 Corinthians 6:9-11) ESV

Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body.
(1 Corinthians 6:18) ESV

But because of the temptation to sexual immorality, each man should have his own wife and each woman her own husband.
(1 Corinthians 7:2) ESV

No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.
(1 Corinthians 10:13) ESV

Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
(1 Corinthians 13:4-7) ESV

Do not be deceived: “Bad company ruins good morals.”
(1 Corinthians 15:33) ESV

Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness?
(2 Corinthians 6:14) ESV

But sexual immorality and all impurity or covetousness must not even be named among you, as is proper among saints.
(Ephesians 5:3) ESV

Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.”
(Ephesians 5:31) ESV

Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the marriage bed be undefiled, for God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterous.
(Hebrews 13:4) ESV

Boyfriends/Girlfriends and the Bible

Although the words boyfriend and girlfriend are not found in the Bible, we are given some principles that Christians are to go by during the time before marriage.

The first thing to realize is that we must separate from the world's view on boyfriend and girlfriend because God's way contradicts the world's (2 Peter 2:20). We are told by society to date around as much as we want, going through as many people as possible. Instead, we should discover what kind of person we are getting into a relationship with before making such a commitment.

We should find out if the person has been born again (John 3:3-8), and if they share the same desire to be as Christ was (Philippians 2:5). Why is this important in finding a partner? A Christian person should be careful not to marry an unbeliever (2 Corinthians 6:14-15) because this could weaken your relationship with Christ, or compromise your morals and standards.

When one is in a committed relationship with someone, it is important to remember to love the Lord above anyone else (Matthew 10:37). To say or believe that the other person is your "everything" or the most important thing in your life is idolatry, which is a sin (Galatians 5:20, Colossians 3:5).

Keep in mind, if the purpose of is to meet and get to know the person whom God has created for you to spend your life with, why are people already looking at age 9? Or even at age 16? No one is prepared for marriage at that age, and premature could lead to temptation to "go all the way" ahead of schedule.

No matter what, do not defile yourself by having pre-marital sex. This gift was created only for husbands and wives (1 Corinthians 6:9, 13, 2 Timothy 2:22). Sexual immorality is a sin not only against God but against your own body (1 Corinthians 6:18).

Also remember, it is important to love and honor others as you love yourself (Romans 12:9-10), and this is certainly true for a dating relationship. Following these biblical principles is the best way to have a secure foundation for a beautiful relationship, and hopefully, eventual marriage.5
