Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed.

(Psalm 37:25,26)

He causeth the grass to grow for the cattle, and herb for the service of man: that he may bring forth food out of the earth; and wine that maketh glad the heart of man, and oil to make his face to shine, and bread which strengtheneth man's heart.
(Psalm 104:14,15)

So is this great and wide sea, wherein are things creeping innumerable, both small and great beasts. There go the ships: there is that leviathan, whom thou hast made to play therein. These wait all upon thee; that thou mayest give them their meat in due season. That thou givest them they gather: thou openest thine hand, they are filled with good.
(Psalm 104:25-28)

He hath given meat unto them that fear him: he will ever be mindful of his covenant.

(Psalm 147:14)

The full soul loatheth an honeycomb; but to the hungry soul every bitter thing is sweet.
(Proverbs 27:7)

The hay appeareth, and the tender grass sheweth itself, and herbs of the mountains are gathered. The lambs are for thy clothing, and the goats are the price of the field. And thou shalt have goats' milk enough for thy food, for the food of thy household, and for the maintenance for thy maidens.
(Proverbs 27:25-27)

He that tilleth his land shall have plenty of bread: but he that followeth after vain persons shall have poverty enough.
(Proverbs 28:19)

It is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine; nor for princes strong drink: Lest they drink, and forget the law, and pervert the judgment of any of the afflicted. Give strong drink unto him that is ready to perish, and wine unto those that be of heavy hearts. Let him drink, and forget his poverty, and remember his misery no more.
(Proverbs 31:4-7)

I know that there is no good in them, but for a man to rejoice, and to do good in his life. And also that every man should eat and drink, and enjoy the good of all his labour, it is the gift of God.
(Ecclesiastes 3:12,13)

Go thy way, eat thy bread with joy, and drink thy wine with a merry heart; for God now accepteth thy works. Let thy garments be always white; and let thy head lack no ointment.
(Ecclesiastes 9:7,8)

What the Bible says about Food and Clothing

What was the original diet recommended for men and women? Fruits, grains, nuts, and legumes.
"Then God said, 'I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food." Genesis 1:29 NIV

Immediately after the flood, when little if any vegetation remained, what did God say about diet?
"All wild animals and birds and fish will be afraid of you, God told him; 'for I have placed them in your power, and they are yours to use for food, in addition to grain and vegetables. But never eat animals unless their life-blood has been drained off." Genesis 9:2-4, TLB

The people were to be careful about their food and make a distinction between what was good for them and what wasn't.
"You must distinguish between the unclean and the clean, between living creatures that may be eaten and those that may not be eaten.". Leviticus 11:47, NIV

What example did Daniel set in the importance of proper diet?
"But Daniel resolved not to defile himself with the royal food and wine, and he asked the chief official for permission not to defile himself this way." Daniel 1:8, NIV

What did he eat instead?
"Please test your servants for ten days: Give us nothing but vegetables to eat and water to drink." Daniel 1:12, NIV

Why should we exercise self-control in our dietary habits?
"It is because you must do everything for the glory of God, even your eating and drinking." I Corinthians 10:31, TLB

What do the Scriptures say about liquor?
"Wine gives false courage; hard liquor leads to brawls; what fools men are to let it master them, making them reel drunkenly down the street!" Proverbs 20:1, TLB

What is the result of over-indulgence in food and drink?
"Do not join those who drink too much wine or gorge themselves on meat, for drunkards and gluttons become poor, and drowsiness clothes them in rags." Proverbs 23:20-21, NIV

Jesus on Food and Clothing

Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they? Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature? And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. (Matthew 6:25-32) 5
