Bible Promises in Song |
Listen |
The LORD is my shepherd; I
shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down in green
pastures: he leadeth me beside the
still waters.
He restoreth my soul: he
leadeth me in the paths of
righteousness for his name's sake.
(Psalm 23:1-3)
|

|
Depart from evil, and do
good; seek peace, and pursue it.
(Psalm 34:14)
|
 |
But the meek shall inherit
the earth; and shall delight
themselves in the abundance of
peace.
(Psalm 37:11)
|
|
The steps of a good man are
ordered by the LORD: and he
delighteth in his way.
Though he fall, he shall
not be utterly cast down: for the
LORD upholdeth him with his hand.
(Psalm 37:23,24)
|
|
Mark the
perfect man, and behold the
upright: for the end of that man
is peace.
(Psalm 37:37)
|
|
My son, forget not my law;
but let thine heart keep my
commandments:
For length of days, and
long life, and peace, shall they
add to thee.
(Proverbs 3:1,2)
|
|
To every thing there is
a season, and a time to every
purpose under the heaven
... A time to love, and a
time to hate; a time of war, and a
time of peace.
(Ecclesiastes 3:1,8)
|
|
The people that walked in
darkness have seen a great light:
they that dwell in the land of the
shadow of death, upon them hath
the light shined
... For unto us a child is
born, unto us a son is given: and
the government shall be upon his
shoulder: and his name shall be
called Wonderful, Counsellor, The
mighty God, The everlasting
Father, The Prince of Peace.
Of the increase of his
government and peace there shall
be no end, upon the throne of
David, and upon his kingdom, to
order it, and to establish it with
judgment and with justice from
henceforth even for ever. The zeal
of the LORD of hosts will perform
this.
(Isaiah 9:2,6,7)
|
|
The wolf also shall dwell
with the lamb, and the leopard
shall lie down with the kid; and
the calf and the young lion and
the fatling together; and a little
child shall lead them.
And the cow and the bear
shall feed; their young ones shall
lie down together: and the lion
shall eat straw like the ox.
And the sucking child shall
play on the hole of the asp, and
the weaned child shall put his
hand on the cockatrice' den.
They shall not hurt nor
destroy in all my holy mountain:
for the earth shall be full of the
knowledge of the LORD, as the
waters cover the sea.
(Isaiah 11:6-9)
|
|
But he was wounded for our
transgressions, he was
bruised for our iniquities: the
chastisement of our peace was
upon him; and with his stripes we
are healed.
(Isaiah 53:5)
|
|
For ye shall go out with
joy, and be led forth with peace:
the mountains and the hills shall
break forth before you into
singing, and all the trees of the
field shall clap their hands.
(Isaiah 55:12) |
|
Blessed are the
peacemakers: for they shall be
called the children of God.
(Matthew 5:9)
|
|
Peace, I leave with
you, my peace I give unto you: not
as the world giveth, give I unto
you. Let not your heart be
troubled, neither let it be
afraid.
(John 14:27)
|
For to be carnally minded
is death; but to be spiritually
minded is life and peace.
(Romans 8:6)

One day we must come to see
that peace is not merely a distant
goal we seek, but that it is a
means by which we arrive at that
goal. We must pursue peaceful ends
through peaceful means.

I was much distressed by next door

What the Bible says ... |
|
About Peace |
How can I find peace?
"Quit quarrelling with God. Agree with Him and you will
have peace at last. His favour will surround you if you will
only |
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
admit that you were wrong."
Job 22:21, TLB
Peace is making things right with
God.
"So now, since we have been made right in God's sight
by faith in His promises, we can have real peace with Him
because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us."
Romans 5:1, TLB
Peace is a gift from God.
"I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart!
And the peace I give isn't fragile like the peace the world
gives. So don't be troubled or afraid."
John 14:27, TLB
Peace results from obeying God's
law.
"Great peace have they who love Your law, and nothing
can make them stumble." Psalm
119:165, NIV
Peace is a worthwhile objective.
"Let us therefore make every effort to do what
leads to peace and to mutual edification."
Romans 14:19, NIV
Peace is security.
"Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: 'May those who
love you be secure. May there be peace within your walls and
security within your citadels."
Psalm 122:6-7, NIV
Once I find peace, how do I keep
it?
"He will keep in perfect peace all those who trust in
Him, whose thoughts turn often to the Lord! Trust in the
Lord God always, for in the Lord Jehovah is your everlasting
strength." Isaiah 26:3-4, TLB
Happiness comes from working for
peaceful relationships.
"Happy are those who strive for peace—they shall be
called sons of God."

Jesus
on Peace |
"Ye
have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a
tooth for a tooth: But I say unto
you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee
on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.
And if any man will sue thee at the law, and take
away thy coat, let him have thy cloak also.
And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with
him twain. Give to him that asketh
thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou
away. Ye have heard that it hath
been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine
enemy. But I say unto you, Love
your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them
that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you,
and persecute you; That ye may be
the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he
maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and
sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust."
(Matthew 5:38-45)

Jesus' Greeting: Shalom |
|
On the
morning of the Resurrection Christ greeted those gathered in
the upper-room with a double Shalom, Shalom (peace be
unto you - KJV), giving a whole new meaning to that word.
The Hebrew word "shalom" conveys
what God planned for the creation. Shalom means that people
are in a good relationship with God, with themselves and
their bodies, with their neighbours (all other people), and
with the earth. For people to be in shalom means that their
life is balanced and that they relate to the whole of what
surrounds them with a peaceful spirit. Humans were the most
special part of God's creation. However, in Old Testament
days there was a lot of bloodshed, mind-numbing atrocities,
rape and war after war. There are also many beautiful images
and visions of peace in the Old Testament. The most
well-known may be a description of the peaceable kingdom in
Isaiah 11, with
lines that include, "The wolf shall live with the lamb"
(verse 6).6,7
