Bible Quotes

He becometh poor that dealeth with a slack hand: but the hand of the diligent maketh rich. He that gathered in summer is a wise son: but he that sleepeth in harvest is a son that causeth shame.
(Proverbs 10:4,5)

The soul of the sluggard desireth, and hath nothing: but the soul of the diligent shall be made fat.
(Proverbs 13:4)

Love not sleep, lest thou come to poverty; open thine eyes, and thou shalt be satisfied with bread.
(Proverbs 20:13)

The thoughts of the diligent tend only to plenteousness; but of every one that is hasty only to want.
(Proverbs 21:5)

I went by the field of the slothful, and by the vineyard of the man void of understanding; And, lo, it was all grown over with thorns, and nettles had covered the face thereof, and the stone wall thereof was broken down. Then I saw, and considered it well: I looked upon it, and received instruction. Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep: So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth; and thy want as an armed man.
(Proverbs 24:30-34)

Be thou diligent to know the state of thy flocks, and look well to thy herds ... And thou shalt have goats' milk enough for thy food, for the food of thy household, and for the maintenance for thy maidens.
(Proverbs 27:23,27)

He that tilleth his land shall have plenty of bread: but he that followeth after vain persons shall have poverty enough.
(Proverbs 28:19)

And that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you; That ye may walk honestly toward them that are without, and that ye may have lack of nothing.
(1 Thessalonians 4:11,12)

Inspirational Quotes from Famous People

A life of leisure, and a life of laziness, are two things.
--Benjamin Franklin quotes (American Statesman, Scientist, Philosopher, Printer, Writer and Inventor. 1706-1790)

A quickness in believing evil without having sufficiently examined it, is the effect of pride and laziness. We wish to find the guilty, and we do not wish to trouble ourselves in examining the crime.
-
François de la Rochefoucauld quotes (French classical author, leading exponent of the Maxime, 1613-1680)

Periods of wholesome laziness, after days of energetic effort, will wonderfully tone up the mind and body.
-
Grenville Kleiser quotes (American author 1868-1953)

Laziness begets nothing but failures and lost opportunities.
-
Rig Veda quotes

Laziness erodes a person of his enthusiasm and energy. As a result the person loses all opportunities and finally becomes dejected and frustrated. The worst thing is that he stops believing in himself.
--
Sam Veda quotes

My only hobby is laziness, which naturally rules out all others
--
Unknown

You can't teach people to be lazy - either they have it, or they don't.
--
Dagwood Bumstead quotes

Leisure is time for doing something useful; this leisure the diligent man will obtain, but the lazy man never.
--Benjamin Franklin quotes (American Statesman, Scientist, Philosopher, Printer, Writer and Inventor. 1706-1790)

Offer the lazy an egg, and they'll want you to peel it for them.
--
Lithuanian Proverb quotes

Tomorrow is the only day in the year that appeals to a lazy man.
--
Jimmy Lyons quotes

When we're unemployed, we're called lazy; when the whites are unemployed it's called a depression.
--

The Bible and Laziness

Persistent laziness should not be permitted. "We hear that some among you are idle. They are not busy; they are busybodies. Such people we command and urge in the Lord Jesus Christ to settle down and earn the bread they eat." II Thessalonians 3:11-12, NIV.

Hard work should characterize the Christian's life-style. "Work hard so God can say to you, 'Well done. Be a good workman, one who does not need to be ashamed when God examines your work." II Timothy 2:15, TLB.

Lazy people are not successful people. "Lazy men are soon poor; hard workers get rich. A wise youth makes hay while the sun shines, but what a shame to see a lad who sleeps away his hour of opportunity." Proverbs 10:4-5, TLB.

Lazy people do not have good judgment. "The lazy man won't go out and work. 'There might be a lion outside!' he says. He sticks to his bed like a door to its hinges! He is too tired even to lift his food from his dish to his mouth! Yet in his own opinion he is smarter than seven wise men." Proverbs 26:13-16, TLB.

Here's a serious lesson for the lazy, courtesy of an ant. "Take a lesson from the ants, you lazy fellow. Learn from their ways and be wise! For though they have no king to make them work, yet they labor hard all summer, gathering food for the winter. But you—all you do is sleep. When will you wake up? 'Let me sleep a little longer!' Sure, just a little more! And as you sleep, poverty creeps upon you like a robber and destroys you; want attacks you in full armor." Proverbs 6:6-11, TLB.5
